English Language

If our twelve member strong team were to decide on a tagline, it would be simply, “Explore the language; say what you mean.” Our primary aim is to attain one hundred percent mastery in effective communication among our students, as such, we maintain the traditional approaches of regular engagement and testing, speaking, listening and critical thinking activities, research and creative writing. The variety of courses we offer constitutes: English language, English literature, Spanish and literacy. Upon entering this institution, each student go through a session of diagnostic testing in literacy with our foremost aim being to place them in the group most suited to their areas of needs. Subsequently the curriculum is adjusted to create the best learning support. Special attention is paid to slow learners as our pedagogic practices are regularly reviewed and best practices shared in planning sessions. Successful studies in language and literature greatly enhance work and study opportunities for students, hence, the progression of our curricula is formulated to fully prepare students for the CSEC or City and Guild external examinations and for life; as they exit school with the mission of taking their positions and making their mark in the wider society.
